Set in the 1870's in the frontier town of Independence, Colorado, Sara was the story of a strong-willed schoolteacher who had given up a dull, predictable life in the East for the challenge of the old West.
A fighter, Sara battled prejudice and ignorance - much to the dismay of the old-fashioned townspeople who thought she should be just a schoolteacher for their children and nothing more!
Sara's actions drew mixed opinions from school board members, Emmett Ferguson, George Bailey and Claude Barstow; the disapproval of her landlady, Martha Higgins and the approval of newspaper editor Martin Pope and her best friend Julia Bailey. But the most important thing to Sara was that she had the undivided attention and enthusiastic interest of her students in the one-room school where she taught.
